Elle Fanning’s Riveting LIKENESS Video Exposes Bulimia

Women and girls have been turning to eating disorders for years to make them feel better about themselves, but why? And why is it not being discussed? This new short movie exposes an artistic view of women and girls while in the midst of the disease.

ELLE Magazine says:
"It used to be taboo to discuss eating disorders, but at this point barely a week goes by without a celebrity opening up about his or her struggle with anorexia or bulimia. Though it’s always upsetting to read about these struggles, I confess to becoming somewhat inured to the eating disorder narrative after years of lady blogging. Which makes this new short film, Likeness directed by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigro Prieto, even more special: It broke through my mental complacency about eating disorders and negative body image because it is truly disturbing.”

Video: LIKENESS directed by Rodrigo Prieto

About the movie:
"The directorial debut of Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, "LIKENESS" is a personal meditation on eating disorders created by Prieto and his daughter. "LIKENESS" stars Elle Fanning as a girl struggling with self-perception, and challenges us to consider the role of society in presenting an idealized image of the female body.

Movie Details:
  • Written and Directed by Rodrigo Prieto
  • Starring Elle Fanning
  • Producers Rhea Scott, Lilly Hartley, Jacqueline Bosnjak, Jan Wieringa

Many Hollywood celebrities lead lives devoted to maintaining their appearance and looking good for film. Celebrity diets and looking good go hand in hand. But how do they do it?

But what happens when a celebrity packs on a few pounds and they need to lose the weight for that special part in a movie or TV show.  Us Weekly and others around the web have gathered some of the best of the best from celebrities and how they do it.

Source: US Weekly Jonah Hill

A few tips on how to do it:
  1. Develop a routine (20 minutes a day, pick the time and days and stick to it).
  2. Snack smart with Healthy Snacks (try replacing high-calorie snacks with vitamin-packed veggies and apples).
  3. Be selective about the food you keep around you. Keep junk food out of the house, your office space, and car. Replace it with healthy items that are low calorie and packed with Vitamins.
  4. Find balance, enjoy yourself, and do exercise that you really like.
  5. Indulge - but do it in moderation. If you are craving a peanut butter sandwich, but you have sworn off white bread, sugar and fat. Then compromise and eat half of a sandwich. This will usually halt the craving and allow for your craving to be satisfied.
  6. Try new forms of exercise. Don't be afraid to try something new, and pick things that really interest you.
  7. Start small - pick a goal a determine the best way to reach it. Talk it over with someone you trust, a doctor, psychologist. Reach your goal, reevaluate and set another healthy goal. Before you know it, you will be at your ideal weight and body type.

In a recent study by the Mayo Clinic they offered dieters money to take off the pounds, and the result?

How it worked:
  • 4 weight loss groups
  • 2 groups offered financial opportunities
  • 2 groups did not
  • all participants set a weight loss goal
  • if you met your goal you were awarded with $20
  • if you failed to meet your goal you were charged $20, ouch
Mayo’s studies showed that this may actually be viable weight loss alternative. Now who will pay everyone to loose weight?

Boot Camp Day 6: Bikini Boot Camp

Do visions of bikini’s and working out fill your head? Yes this does seem to be part of their attire, however maybe not the way that you may think.

This bootcamp is located on the beaches of Tulum, Ibiza. It is not being advertised as a weight loss camp but more of an adventure fitness and yoga holiday that has been "designed to help guests reconnect to themselves and nature through a combination of exercise, healthy eating, adventure, yoga, relaxation and pampering.”

Portovert Magazine explains more:"A typical day at Amansala Resort offers enough structure to keep you busy, but not so much that you can't veg out with a book and enjoy the sand and surf. You can opt to attend every single class, or pick and choose as the mood strikes: power yoga if you're hard core, restorative if you're sore.”

“Who would have thought that sleeping in a cabana on the beach and eating fresh grilled fish, ceviche and fruit smoothies would be more rewarding and memorable than a stay at The Four Seasons.” – Rachel Tanner (Excerpt from Bikini Bootcamp -

"BIKINI BOOTCAMP INCLUDES 3 EXCURSIONS
BIKE RIDE TO THE MAYAN RUINS OF TULUM
Beautiful flat ride along the beach to the ruins followed by a guided tour. When you get back to camp you’ll definitely be ready to jump in the refreshing ocean.

Unlike other cities the pyramids of Tulum are small and most monuments had ceremonial functions. Tulum is the third most visited archaeological site of Mexico and a must see due to its extremely beautiful setting on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea and located just a short bike ride from us.

VISIT A FRESHWATER SWIMMING POOL
Tulum’s Grand Cenote is a large beautiful garden cenote with gentle white sand beach type areas along with easily accessible caves for snorkeling and diving. You can swim around the edges of the cenote, viewing depths up to 10 meters.

Views include columns of stalactites and stalagmites of all shapes and sizes which resemble cities of skyscrapers. Large balls of roots and vines seem to grow out of the underwater ceiling, connected to the large jungle trees above. Schools of fish tend to follow, eating up the plant debri which swim fins and paddling feet tend to stir up. Little green turtles paddle around near the garden´s edge.

CLIMB A PYRAMID IN COBA
Enjoy a beautiful jungle walk before reaching the incredible ruins of Coba.

The archaeological site of Coba, surrounded by five lakes, is still largely hidden in the sub tropical vegetation. It contains about 6500 structures spread over nearly 70 km. This is the most important site of the Yucatán Peninsula that can only be compared with Chichen Itza his eternal rival, Archaeologists believe that Cobá had a population of 50 000 inhabitants (and possibly more) at its peak."  (Excerpt from Bikini Bootcamp 2015)

Boot Camp: Day 5 - Top 10 Weight Loss Camps Hippocrates

I found this next retreat while at the dentist's office reading Cosmopolitan Magazine. The article itself must have been 4 inches x 4 inches, with a cute little picture of a shack with a green and tropical Florida background. Seriously, the name alone sounds peaceful and encouraging: the Hippocrates Health Institute. Do visions of Hippocrates and health just fill your mind?

Image courtesy of Hippocrates Health Institute
Hippocrates is a nonprofit health institute that is based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Originally founded in Boston, Massachusetts by Ann Wigmore soon after she discovered the healing properties of using Wheatgrass therapies for colon cancer.  Their philosophy is that, "a vegan, living, enzyme-rich diet – complemented by exercise, positive thinking and non-invasive therapies – is integral to optimum health.”

Hippocrates stated nearly 2,500 years ago: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Let me just say this, this is the only fitness retreat with a hair salon, their own wheat grass warehouse and laser hair removal therapy.

Here is an example of just some of the program benefits when visiting Hippocrates:
  • located on 50 acres of serene tropical woodlands in Southern Florida
  • serene setting to aid in healing, nurturing and developing into one’s fullest potential
  • holistic approach to health and wellness
  • daily lectures on health, healing and alternative modalities
  • detoxification
  • ozone pools, including: dead sea salt, swimming, jacuzzi and cold plunge
  • weekly massages
  • emotional counseling and psychotherapy
  • stress evaluation and stress management

To finish it up, they offer a variety of programs, with stay times between 1 to 9 weeks and a few different options for accommodations. Here is a link to their Financing and scholarship options page.

Added bonus, the link to their recipes page! I will be trying the dressing out very soon.

Life Transformation Program - 3 Weeks

The Hippocrates Life Transformation Program is the 3-Week Signature Hippocrates Health Institute Program. We recommend 3 weeks to people wanting to come to Hippocrates, as this is enough time for habit change, to ‘solidify real change’ and influence health, and to fully benefit from embracing The Hippocrates Lifestyle.

Health Educator Program

The Hippocrates Health Educator Program (HED) provides an extensive learning experience about the practice and teachings of the living foods lifestyle, inspired by Hippocrates’ wisdom, “Let Food Be Thy Medicine and Medicine Be Thy Food.” The nine-week program not only provides students with a concise introduction to the health benefits of a raw, plant-based diet, but involves complementary therapies and related disciplines that are essential to a healthy and well-rounded approach to life, as well as a career path to help others take responsibility for their lives. For more details visit: Hippocrates Health Educator Program (HED)

"More than a half century ago, visionary and humanitarian Ann Wigmore developed a simple concept first voiced by Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, nearly 2,500 years ago: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Together with the brilliant Viktoras Kulvinskas, Ms. Wigmore nurtured this seed, creating a comprehensive institute that encourages people to draw from their vast inner resources to transform the quality of their health and lives. The commitment to this inspired truth is embodied in Hippocrates Health Institute, a non-profit organization jointly directed by the caring hands of Brian and Anna Maria Clement since 1980."  (Excerpts from http://hippocratesinst.org/ 2015)
