Warren Buffett’s Top 10 Investment Books Every Woman Over 40 Should Read in 2025

When it comes to building long-term wealth, few people are more respected than Warren Buffett. Known for his disciplined approach to value investing and lifelong learning, Buffett often credits his success to the books he’s read.

For women over 40—many of whom are navigating career pivots, financial independence, or planning for retirement—learning from Buffett's bookshelf can be a game-changer.

Here are 10 timeless investment books Warren Buffett has praised, with insights tailored for women seeking smart financial growth in 2025.

1. The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham

Why Buffett recommends it: By far the best book on investing ever written.”

Why it’s great for women over 40: This classic teaches the fundamentals of value investing and emotional discipline—perfect for building a secure financial future with confidence.

2. Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham & David Dodd

A more technical deep dive than The Intelligent Investor, this book is for women who want to understand how to evaluate businesses like pros. Think of it as your financial “x-ray vision.”

3. Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits by Philip Fisher

Buffett credits this book with teaching him to value the quality of a business, not just the price. Women interested in growth stocks or entrepreneurship will gain a lot from Fisher’s insights into long-term investing.

4. Business Adventures by John Brooks

Buffett loved this collection of Wall Street case studies so much, he sent it to Bill Gates. It offers valuable lessons in leadership, risk, and resilience—skills that are just as useful in life as they are in finance.

5. The Essays of Warren Buffett by Lawrence Cunningham

This curated selection of Buffett’s annual shareholder letters provides plainspoken wisdom on investing, business, and integrity. Perfect for women who want to understand Buffett’s mindset directly.

6. The Little Book of Common Sense Investing by John C. Bogle

Buffett has praised Bogle for creating the index fund, and this book explains why. Ideal for busy women looking for low-maintenance, high-reliability investing strategies.

7. Where Are the Customers’ Yachts? by Fred Schwed Jr.

A humorous, brutally honest look at Wall Street’s flaws. This one helps readers stay grounded and skeptical—especially useful in a world full of financial influencers and “get rich quick” schemes.

8. The Outsiders by William N. Thorndike

This book highlights CEOs who excelled at capital allocation—something Buffett emphasizes constantly. It’s perfect for women who are entrepreneurs, investors, or even managing family finances.

9. Poor Charlie’s Almanack by Charles T. Munger

Buffett’s business partner offers timeless advice on decision-making, mental models, and living a principled life. It’s less about investing and more about *how to think*—a must-read at any age.

10. Tap Dancing to Work by Carol J. Loomis

A collection of Fortune articles and interviews chronicling Buffett’s life and career. It gives context to his strategies and philosophies, offering inspiration to women creating second (or third!) acts in life.

Final Thought: Knowledge Is Compound Interest

Buffett’s reading habit is a key part of his success. For women over 40 looking to take control of their financial future, these books offer more than just strategies—they offer clarity, confidence, and independence.

Start with one. Take notes. Apply the lessons. You don’t have to be Warren Buffett to build wealth—you just have to think like him.

Take a Vacation & Loose Weight! Part 1

Follow Me on Pinterest

5 Parts to: How to take a vacation and loose weight or maintain weight (Part 1)

The weight loss epidemic has prompted many thoughts, products and weight loss tips. Really weight loss is a choice, and a choice that needs to be reflected in everyday activities. Including travel. Travel and holidays give way to weight gain and an emotional struggle that can last for months after the actual holiday or vacation.

Image courtesy of Inspire Fit Resorts
I recall a good friend of mine feeling great angst after returning from a cruise, where she mentioned there wasn't much to do but eat. Unfortunately she gained an additional 7 pounds that she had been struggling with for some\time to keep off. Keep in mind it took her another 2-3 months to loose the weight she gained in just a week.

Leaving us with a few questions (before I address the travel aspect):
  1. If you are "struggling" with weight loss, why?
  2. Are there unresolved issues that have not been dealt with, causing a constant struggle and an emotional drain?
  3. Is your life not set up to encourage a healthy lifestyle?
  4. Are you using eating as an emotional crutch to avoid present day problems?

After years of struggling and observing feelings associated with weight and weight loss, the conclusion? Overeating, anorexia, bulimia and pill popping are associated with an emotional and spiritual imbalance.

Using weight loss pills or going on a diet just addresses the surface problems and leaves you with the feeling of always being one step away from gaining weight. All of this is not your fault and you are not a victim. In simple terms, the only way to change your weight situation is to change your mind! Change the way you see things and the way you think.

Additionally change your life to meet your healthy needs, including good food and exercise. Do it for yourself, because you are tired of feeling awful and embarrassed and wearing clothes to cover yourself up. That's it, I will now write about travel and acceptable forms that encourage your healthy weight loss or just travel to help you maintain your weight. Stay tuned for Part 2 of Take a Vacation & Loose Weight!

Matthew McConaughey: Why would the fit & attractive Matthew lose 30lbs?

Matthew McConaughey was recently caught with a physique nothing like the hot and sexy Matthew that we are all so used too. Once voted by People Magazine as the sexiest man of the year, what would make him drop an incredible 30lbs? Film of course, a new film in which McConaughey starred in in 2013.

How did he do it?
When asked what weight loss method he used for loosing so much weight, well not eating was the answer. In what seems like a trend in the movie industry for absolute devotion to their work; discipline, coaches and maybe no food around probably helped out a bit. But don't get any bright anorexic ideas there are better ways to losing weight than starving yourselves.

He had mission though, and hopefully does not plan to stay that thin, because although some men look good thin he looks better tan and built! Stay tuned next year for "The Dallas Buyer's Club".

Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition - Challenging 335-lb Woman to Change

Follow Me on Pinterest

Do you ever feel like we are all heading to those slug like morbid creatures on Wall - E? They had given up basic human activities to eat junk food 24-7 and use the computer and television to replace human contact.

So unattached from where humans had originally started as survivors, hunters and gathers, communities that cared for one another. Do you find your bottom growing larger and numbing out from everyday sensations? Are you unhappy with your weight but are too lazy to move forward into a solution?

It's funny how we get stuck in ruts. Stuck and unwilling to move into what we have to do, or until we feel so bad that we are inwardly forced to do something. What is your block? What's keeping you from advancing yourself into something you truly wish to be?

Extreme Makeover is known for helping those in need, helping "situation victims" that have got stuck in that everyday rut, usually due to situations out of their control. Now Extreme Makeover has gone weight loss. Granted I live in Southern California, one of the healthiest (or so they say) areas in the country.

I think it is due to the unearthly amount of sunshine and nice weather we have year round. I have lived in some " bad weather" locations including Key West, Georgia, Vermont and even Seattle and let me tell you weather means a lot. Although with the proper motivation, exercise can be achieved everywhere. Even if that means vhs tapes with the curtains closed.

Learn more about what happens to Sally on Extreme Makeover's Weight Loss Edition when she is challenged to give it her all. Go Sally, and for all of my followers, don't give up because beyond your body your life is worth it!

Why change?

People can change until they take their last breath.
-Alton R. Jorgenson-

Why change if what you are doing is working? Your ability to change is your biggest advantage in life. And unlike an animal we have the ability to create and change our circumstances. And although sometimes it feels as those change is not possible, and stuck may be the word that comes into your mind frequently. And even if the solution isn't what you may think it is I am sure there is "another option" to enjoy your life and become the full wonderful person that you are.

The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your state of mind.

 -Wayne Dyer-

If you feel as though you need a change and you are in the holding pattern, try asking yourself a few questions:
  • What is stopping me from making the changes I know I need to make?
  • What do I have to loose?
  • Will this change bring improvement to my life?
  • Are there things in your life that need to happen before this change occurs? If so what?
  • Do you really want to change your weight, your life and/or your perception?
  • Is this change for you or for someone else?

These questions may help you through your weight loss journey. Becuase part of weight loss is getting in touch with your inner feelings, the ones that are normally stuffed when eating. Be aware of these new feelings and what you really want within your life. And remember if you are having a hard time expressing or dealing with these "extra" feelings seek professional help or check out free support through local groups in your area such as OA (Overaters Anonymous).

Or try out Free Online Chats and Forums:
Livestrong.com mentions that:
"The Mayo Clinic suggests that many individuals who are trying to lose weight often benefit from behavioral support. If you struggle with motivation or negative eating or lifestyle habits, such as giving in to food cravings or leading a sedentary lifestyle, a peer support group may help you stay motivated. Support groups can help you learn new strategies for long-term weight loss and give you encouragement when you experience difficulties or frustration."

Life is worth the change and although your feet may drag at first things will improve.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Pay Attention!

Pay Attention!
Eating. We do it every day; three, four, five times a day or more. We have eaten food since birth, and there are some good and bad feelings associated with eating. It is easy to become numb while eating, which is why some of us eat extra. It is also convenient and acceptable on some levels to try to and eat your feelings away. Today ask yourself how are you feeling? Pay attention to your feelings before, during and after you eat.

Common feelings include:
    Hunger
    Anger
    Loneliness
    Tired

Also known as HALT.  It is easy to get swallowed up by your emotions especially strong emotions like anger, loneliness, self-loathing and even exhaustion. Food is safe for many people, as it is not illegal and no one regulates your personal daily intake, except you. Unlike alcohol you can't stop eating food, it is everywhere and you need it to survive. So that's where moderation and healthy behaviors come in, and don't forget pleasure. Enjoying the sweet taste of a strawberry because you want it and not because you emotionally need can be satisfying and life changing for the body and the soul.

Things will begin to change when you begin to change your daily actions and habits. Sometimes this happens overnight and sometimes it will take awhile. Life is great and it is here for your enjoyment if you take the reins and move forward into a life of greatness and joy. Begin by acknowledging and writing down your feelings throughout the day and while you eat. If these feelings are too much for you to handle and work through, search out a competent professional to help you, because your life is worth it!
